The Link Between Healthier Brains and the Mediterranean Diet

Through MRI scans and analyzing brain volume, data suggested that those who followed a Mediterranean diet were less likely to lose brain volume as they aged. While more research is necessary to better understand the association, the study revealed that the diet can prevent against Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Studies have also revealed that wine and the Mediterranean diet can make your brain 5 years younger. Additionally, the meal plan can help you to live longer, better manage your weight and lower your risk for cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Where do you start? The Mediterranean diet is relatively easy to follow, involving vegetables, fruits and beans. The diet also calls for poultry and fish along with whole grains. Wine is also a welcome benefit to the Mediterranean diet. The meal plan only limits the consumption of meat, dairy and saturated fats.
